At the workshops of Renaissance Floor In-Lays, we are not only reviving forgatten form of enhancing hardwood floors but also doing it by usingoriginal technique called the Boulle Method, named after its 18th century inventor, French cabinet master Andre Charles Boulle. Our in-lays in 1/4″ thick sheets of various species hardwoods are hand cut on a scroll saw, then painstaking process of assembling shaped ornaments takes place. Such created compositions in forms of medallions, parquets or borders are then press-glued on a thicker sheet of plywood. Roughly presanded and sealed panels are shipped as ready to install product. The 1/4″ thickness of all our in-lay maintain sufficient wear surface to last at least for the next one hundred years. We have concluded that only by, searching back to the original classical methods of making in-lays one can achieve very impressive results.
